[REC] Movie Review

Thanks to Quarantine for making this one easier to track down!
PLOT
Angela and her cameraman go to a local fire station to film a segment for her television show that covers the world when most people are sleeping. They receive a call that sends them out to an apartment building where a woman is holed up in her apartment, screaming. The men break into the apartment and the elderly woman attacks, biting one man on the neck. The group heads downstairs where they learn that they’ve been quarantined inside the building until officials can determine what’s happening. The story unfolds in front of our very eyes and through the lens of the camera as the characters attempt to escape the horrors inside that building.
TRIVIA
[REC] has never been released on DVD in the US.
Plans were announced earlier this year in Spain that the filmmakers were working on a sequel to be titled REC2.
THOUGHTS
It’s hard to watch this movie without thinking of Quarantine and even harder to watch [REC] and not realize that it’s a far superior movie. First of all we only spend 7 minutes in the firehouse before we leap into the action, not twenty minutes of watching the lead girl flirt with the firemen. Also, despite the subtitles, [REC] is much easier to follow, in part because there aren’t those huge scenes that take place in darkened rooms.
It also felt a little more gory to me. When the little girl attacked, I nearly wet my pants and/or jumped out of my seat. I knew it was coming, but it still surprised the hell out of me. I also have to say that Angela is far less annoying here than the same character was in Quarantine. I actually started to like her, something I never did in the American remake.
The one thing I am curious about is if I would have liked this movie if I hadn’t seen Quarantine first. I disliked that movie quite a bit so maybe in my head I already thought this should be better. I’ll just end by saying that I definitely liked this movie, far more than the remake.

Another thing I loved is that this one isn’t so freaking dark! You can actually see what’s happening all of the time and there’s not so many jumps and shaky camera work.
I could tell you, but then I’d have to kill you lol.
Inside is on my Netflix queue, but I haven’t yet seen it. A few people I know who saw it said that it wasn’t as good as everyone says…
