WRONG TURN 2: DEAD END

Poster

Those inbred hillbilly rednecks are back….

THE PLOT

Kimberly Caldwell heads into the hills for her role in an upcoming reality show, only she never makes it to the set. The rest of the stars on hand include Nina (Erica Leerhsen, Blair Witch 2), Jake, Jonesy, Amber and Elena (Crystal Lowe, Final Destination 3). Henry Rollins also appears as Dale Murphy, an ex-Special Forces op leading the group onward. The game is set up in a post-apocalyptic world where the players have to complete certain tasks with a partner to win the game. As the game progresses those good old hillbillies from the woods come out and start nabbing people one by one.

FUN TRIVIA

Original plans called for Eliza Dushku and Desmond Harrington to return for the sequel. The studio decided to release the feature straight onto the DVD market, which necessitated all new actors and characters.

If you look closely during the scenes where the characters are in the garage, you can see the blue Mustang that Chris (Desmond Harrington) drove in the first movie.

THOUGHTS/OPINIONS

This is a great movie if you love Henry Rollins like I do. He’s the real star of the movie here and it’s a nice treat to see him as the hero of a film, instead of the ragamuffin. Interestingly enough I found myself drawn to Crystal Lowe’s character because she seemed to be one of the only “real” characters in the film. She plays the sex starved actress ready and willing to do anything to get ahead in Hollywood.

The rest of the characters are pretty much one dimensional. There’s the slimy producer, his long suffering girlfriend, the vegetarian Wiccan girl, you get the picture. There’s not really anything new about the characters, including Lowe and Rollins but at least they’re interesting.

There are a few good kill scenes and some great special effects as well as a couple of hillbillies from the first movie coming back for a second appearance. It’s clear that the movie was created around them and that more time was spent on the makeup.

I liked this movie and I do own it. It’s probably not as good as the first one, but I was a big fan of that movie. It’s definitely better than most straight to DVD sequels.
