Battle Royale
Battle Royale. Everyone seems shocked when I admit that I haven’t seen the movie. To rectify that, I finally saw and the movie. It seems like a good choice to kick off this new blog.
PLOT
The plot of Battle Royale is simple and basic. In a not too distant future Japan has decided to solve their problem of disruptive teens. Their solution is to draw a class randomly by lottery, send those teens to a remote island and let them battle to the end. Only one winner will survive the battle royale and if after three days there isn’t a winner, everyone left standing will die.
THE GOOD
Some of the fight scenes are fairly good and some of the death scenes are equally good. I also have to give two thumbs up to the basic plotline since I’m a little tired of convoluted plots in movies.
THE BAD
It wasn’t exactly what I was expecting from a Japanese movie. Considering what they’re capable of, I expected to see a lot more: more blood, more unusual deaths and more action.
THE BOTTOM LINE
I went into this movie with high hopes and they just weren’t met. Everyone and his brother seems to have seen this movie and it’s become one of those “trendy” movies. Anyone who wants to “prove” they’re a “real” horror movie fan talks about this movie like it was the second coming. Unfortunately it just didn’t deliver for me. I have a hard time even classifying this as a horror movie; at best it’s a good foreign action film.

You probably wouldn’t like the sequel either. I’m personally in love with the manga.
Thanks for the opinion. I think my problem was that people hyped the movie up so much to me that it would have to be amazing to keep me interested.
After watching this movie, after hearing about how great it was, I wondered if I was the only one that actually thought it was just an all right movie. I was in the same boat as you… I went in with high expectations and came out disappointed a bit.
I can’t even explain how MANY people recommended this. I think everyone in the world told me how great it was. By then there was no way it would ever hold up.
